World Drug Day: International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit
Today is United Nation's World Drug Day: International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, where "on this [day, UN Secretary-General, Ban Hi-moon calls] on countries and communities to continue to improve the lives of everyone blighted by drug abuse by integrating security and public safety with a heightened focus on health, human rights, and sustainable development."*
This year's theme is 'Listen First', which is an initiative to increase support for prevention of drug use that is based on science and starts with listening/ understanding those affected. "It is thus an effective investment in the well-being of children and youth, their families and their communities."*
Mindfulness can help by:
Increase your listening skills to help those affected
Using Urge Surfing practices to overcome drug addictions (click here if you are a person affected by addition or here if you are a health care professional treating a patient)
